Teaching 21st Century Skills in Science
14 July 2010, 9am - 5pm
For Secondary School and Junior Colleges' Science Teachers
How can you best prepare students for the challenges that lie ahead in the 21st Century? The traditional approaches are less engaging and less effective, and new teaching approaches are needed. Research tells us what skills today's students will need in their career. Other research has discovered how students learn best. We bring these strands together in a full-day of active learning.
This is a fast-paced launch into active learning that teaches not only the academic skills, but also how to employ and apply these skills. You will work in small groups to solve problems, create, and learn.
What you will learn
• Skills that your students will need to be competitive in the 21st century
• How to incorporate 21st century skills in your teaching
• How incorporating 21st century skills builds cross-disciplinary skills
• How to build deeper understanding rather than shallow memorization
• Bring the 21st century into your classroom
